On finishing WIPs

UFOs
A friend of mine who makes quilts recently told me that in quilting circles, they refer to UFOs – meaning UnFinished Objects.
It’s taken for granted that most quilters will have a few of these lying around, neatly folded deep in a closet, or stuffed under the sewing table, or wherever. Untouched for months or years. If all the material has already been bought and cut, once the quilter has admitted to herself that she will never get around to finishing the UFO, she may donate it to the local quilting group, who will finish it and on-donate it to a battered women’s shelter, or similar.
Hearing about this made me think that however much I rail against them, stale WIPs are an inevitable byproduct of the creative process.
( Stale WIPs – where they come from, why they linger, and how to finish them )
