I'm actually pretty disorganized when I write (just ask [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] about my tendency to write scenes in no particular order). But I've also spent a lot of time learning how to pick a narrative apart, so this sort of analytical writing is a lot of fun for me, even if it isn't quite as instructive as some of the other pieces people have posted.
For me, it actually works best to write the story first, and then go back and add or delete things that don't fit with the narrator I want. But I don't think I'd recommend that method, because it sometimes means writing the same story a few times to get it right...
