I remember when I started writing fanfic, I hated the fact that my vocabulary was as limited as it was. Since then, it's expanded a great deal, but I still occasionally have to stop writing because I'm unsure how to say what I want to say without some clunky, no good sentence. Just because I don't know a specific term/word.
Cultural injokes and references *sighs*. There are times when someone's explained a reference for me where I go 'ooooooooh' -- and I finally get it, even though I've actually heard the reference before, but never had the full benefit of it before just because I didn't know... So yeah, that's always a huge obstacle.
And yes, if I ever sat down and thought about all those things I don't know, I think I'd stop writing alltogether LOL.
